Individual Support Program

Individual Support Packages (ISP) incorporate two programs run by the Department of Health and Human Services. In order to understand the types of support provided, it is easiest to look at the two programs (using their old names) that became ISP.

The Personal Support Program (PSP) aimed to assist people with disabilities to live and actively participate in their community and exercise independence and control over their lives. This is achieved through the provision of a package of support (now called an ISP), usually to a maximum of 34 hours per week, which provides assistance with meeting personal care needs (eg. showering, dressing, getting in and out of bed) and support with other activities such as shopping and cooking.

The Individual Options Program (IOP) was a 'package' granted to people with disabilities who are supported by carers, particularly older carers and people living in remote areas. Many carers choose to use the package to access much needed respite. Respite may be provided in-home, out-of-home or overnight. The package can also be used to assist with personal care and other tasks.

As stated above, IOP and PSP have been merged and are now known as Individual Support Packages (ISP).

Freedom of Choice
People in receipt of an ISP Package are free to choose the service provider of their (own) choice. This allows the client to "shop around" and choose the organisation that best meets their individual needs and transfer to an alternative agency if their needs are not being met.

Parkside encourages ISP clients to select their own team of support workers and negotiate the hours of support that fit best with their life style.

Equipment
The ISP can also fund one-off equipment items for people with disabilities.

Eligibility
In order to receive an ISP you must apply to Disability Services, a section of the State Department of Health and Human services (Ph. (03) 6230 7525).

Fees
Parkside does not generally charge fees to clients in receipt of an ISP.

The following document 'Contract of Service' demonstrates the manner in which an ISP is structured to meet the needs of the client. When filled in, the information in this document forms the basis for an individual's support program.
